Aweber is an online email marketing provider, helping you to grow and maintain your email list.
With your membership you can create lists, import and export existing emails, send broadcasts and most importantly, create an autoresponder.
They have over 120,000 customers which shows that their service is well known in the online world.
With constant game changing updates and incredibly easy to use interface, Aweber provides an outstanding customer service.
But before I compliment their service any further, I want to explain that I wasn’t always using Aweber.
You can see in my previous post on how to increase your traffic through an email list, that I was actually using Madmimi before.
Before using Madmimi however, I was using Mailchimp.
The reason I switched from both, is because although their service was alright, they couldn’t compare to Aweber.
It’s a complete different league in my opinion. I won’t go into details to compare the other two providers.
However I will mention a few comparisons occasionally.
I’ll mainly be explaining all the features I enjoy and dislike about my current membership.
Who Is Aweber For?
Anyone that owns a business, especially does who work online, should be creating or maintaining an email list.
When I first started out, I completely ignored this message.
Fair enough, my list would probably not have grown in the slightest, but it is still good to start as early as possible.
The greater the list the better and as they say: “The money is in the list”
The reason I didn’t use Aweber as my first provider, is not because I didn’t know about them. Quite the opposite actually, e.
I just wasn’t ready to pay for something I didn’t quite understand yet. That’s why I joined Mailchimp first.
Mailchimp offers a free membership until you reach 2000 subscribers. What they don’t offer is an automatic responder for free though.
Madmimi have similar features but what makes Aweber so attractive, is that it is very powerful and clearly beats both former contestants.
I even use their app to see my stats on a daily basis when I’m on the go.
To answer the question, who Aweber is ideally for, I would have to say, for everyone that’s interested in making money online.
I think a lot of online marketers use these type of tools to send out their affiliate links and promote products.
I actually prefer to send out useful links to my posts and ask my newsletters questions on how to help them.
It’s easier for me to identify where people are struggling and can therefore help them on a personal 1-to-1 basis over email.
Of course you don’t have to make money using it. You could simply use it to keep giant email lists and send out emails if you do this regularly.
What Exactly Is Aweber?
It’s an email autoresponder service. It collects emails that you want it to collect you. From those emails it will send out emails you created to them.
If you have a business about losing weight, you can create a list of people who are interested in that topic.
You then create follow up messages that will send out emails on the days you want them to be sent out to those people you collected emails from.
Of course these emails should contain valuable information helping those people to lose weight.
That is pretty much it in a nutshell. If you’d want to, you could be doing the whole thing yourself by having an excel spreadsheet with hundreds of emails.
But that would take up an incredible amount of time, which is why most online marketers will use such a autoresponder.
If you can automate a highly useful and important task for your business you should definitely do it.
As you can see, by having a massive list, you could make a good amount of money by promoting new products and sending your affiliate link.
That is one possibility and as mentioned previously, that is the main use and idea for most people when it comes to email lists.
Trainings And Tools
Setting up a signup form can be quite complicated if you do this for the first time.
When I had to figure out how to do it with Madmimi it was a bit of a challenge but Aweber makes this quite user friendly.
Every step is thoroughly explained and although it doesn’t look as bubbly as Mailchimp, the help you get through their videos or guides is amazing.
If you do get stuck you’re always a click away from the live chat, watching webinars or just simply following their additional guides.
This is probably the best feature of Aweber. I also get an email every so often with useful information I haven’t discovered about their services yet.
Customer service is a very important factor for me. I hate getting stuck with something and having to Google my way out.
Big plus point goes to that feature!
Broadcasting emails is another amazing feature, where you can send out an email to your entire list.
Not only does it track everyone that opens the email (and the ones that actually click on the links of your mail) it also lets you send it to a specific time.
You can personalize emails by addressing your list by their first, last or full name. You can add your signature and much more.
Of course you are able to import and export emails you managed to collect previously or during your membership.
Because everyone loves individuality, you can modify your sign up forms with the various given templates or even create your unique one.
This can be a little more tricky though, so I’d choose a preprogrammed template.
Another great feature is that you can create as many sign up forms as you want. Each one tracks how many times it gets displayed and more.
I have one on the side of my website as you can see and several different ones on different pages.
Having different ones tells me where I can get the most conversions etc.
The more statistics you get the more you can analyze, improve and fix issues. With Aweber everything is recorded and documented.
Every user gets tracked and you can check out their statistics. How often they open emails, how responsive they are etc.
Needless to say this is another huge advantage!
You can create more than one list as well in case you have more websites for example. But that doesn’t mean you’re restricted to sending out an email per list.
You can combine this which is pretty useful as well.
Pros vs. Cons
- Very user friendly
- Amazing customer support
- Various ways to get help (email, chat, tutorials, call, FAQ’s)
- Tons of tutorials
- Email checkups
- Follow up sequence is real easy to use
- Tons of statistics and tracking put in place
- Spam score telling you to change emails
- First month free and cheap after that
- Can create and send emails to several different lists
- To create a sign up form from scratch can be hard
- No free accounts available
If you ask me, there is no better way to judge something than trying it out. As mentioned above, you can try out Aweber for 30 days for free here.
You can make your own judgement that way.
My personal opinion came across throughout this review I believe but just to emphasize it, I can only recommend it.
Madmimi for instance had a weird policy about what emails I was allowed to send out and blocked me when I mentioned anything about making money online!
With Aweber they simply show your “spam score” of an email and you can decrease it by removing links or rephrase your emails.
I also wanted to add that by changing email provider, I received a lot more subscribers and that’s always a positive sign!
So if you are slightly serious about your business, you should definitely choose an autoresponder and my personal favorite is Aweber.
I hope this review was somewhat useful. If you have any questions feel free to leave comments below. I’d be happy to answer them for you.
